What Website Do You Choose If You're a Geek Who Needs to Lose Weight?

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Something snapped in my this past weekend and I decided enough's enough. I'm done being overweight.  It snuck up on me like a thief and I want my life back.

Here are the excuses I've used thus far:

- Marriage - you put on a few pounds due to domestic bliss, right?

- Medical - I suffered from a spinal tumor, spent almost two months in bed and over a year recovering. All I wanted to eat was comfort food.  Why should I be denied?

- Smoking - Hey, I quit smoking after the tumor was removed, so weight gain is to be expected, right?  (wrong)

I go back and forth between wanting to be a "skinny girl", trying to be happy with what I've become and half-ass trying diets.  I'm done.

Oh, and the gym?  Hate it.  I go out of necessity and not because I really want to be there.

A little over 10 years ago, I joined Ediets.com and it really worked for me. On Sunday, I jumped in again with Ediets without really researching it. I just assumed nothing had changed. Well, I was wrong.  Ediets just has a crazy menu for you for the week (if you cook your own food and don't get the delivery service).  The recipes are easy enough, but impractical for a wife on a diet and a husband who isn't on one.  For example, one dinner requires you to eat 3 ounces of a pork chop...and then no pork the rest of the week.  You and I both know you can't get a package of pork chops for less than a pound.  So, I buy it, thinking the hubby can eat the rest.  The problem is hubby wants to eat better, too.  In the end, Ediets makes you buy a ton of food, about half of which will go to waste because you only use a fraction of it in their recipes.  (Another example: I had to buy a can of tomato sauce, only to use ONE tablespoon!)

So, the past few days, I've been kind of trying different tools such as myfitnesspal.com, ediets.com and Cardio Trainer on my android phone.

I guess I'll weigh in (no pun intended) in the next few weeks and post which one is most helpful (or which two combined).

I know WHAT I need to do.  I just need the regimen to DO it.

Here's the hardest part:

I weighed in at 210 on 06/20/2011.  My goal is to be 150.

Favorite snack so far! I could eat this every day and not grow tired of it.

I joined Weight Watchers after a friend of mine said "that's the only thing that's ever worked for me...wait, why am I not still on that??"

Down 28 pounds in less than 3 months. They have a website and a mobile app for your smartphone. You can build your own recipes and see the points per serving. I love to cook and that's one of my favorite features.

Good luck to you!!

This has been working very well for me, because it is a science-based, balanced approach by way of whole food nutrition. Very best of luck to you; you can do it. http://www.eatfatlosefat.com/index.php
