Chicken Masala & the Farmer's Market

Today, we went to Roseville, California to visit Denio's Farmer's Market & Swap Meet. Neither of us have been there, so it turned into a bit of an adventure. I was extremely pleased with the selection of produce they had. Recently, I was introduced to fava beans and I found a vendor who was selling them. I scored 1 1/2 pounds for $1.25! I couldn't believe it. Looking back, I kind of wish I would have bought more - but there's always next Sunday.

I think I spent about $6.00 and walked away with: red & yellow peppers, sweet corn, patty pan squash and fava beans.  Yum!


I decided to cook a bit of a Trader Joe's dinner again, using their Masala Simmer Sauce.


You just can't get any easier.  Mix the jar of sauce with a cup of water in a pot - for this I used my dutch oven.  Add cut up chicken and simmer for about 20 minutes (or until your chicken is done).  It always turns out so tender and it's introduced the hubby to Indian food.

For a side dish, I sliced up some zucchini and chopped up a couple of the red peppers we got today.  Next, I diced three cloves of garlic.


All of this got sauteed in rosemary infused olive oil (heaven in and of itself) and I threw in halved grape tomatoes right before I served up the dish:


Made some jasmine rice and dinner was served.


PS:  Would someone tell the cat he's a carnivore?  I had a heck of a time keeping him away from the peppers all day!

Was it the first trip to Denio's? I've been going since I was a crib monkey, so I'm used to the craziness. It makes some people a little claustrophobic, though. Which reminds me...I need to head out there to get fruit to can in a couple weeks. :)
