I love brunch.
Love, love, love brunch.
In fact, I think it's one of the best meals of the day and it's horribly unfortunate it's not served every day.
And there are so many good places to have it here in Sacramento, that it's usually a struggle to decide where to go. Well, when my hubby told me yesterday that he was going to have to work all day today, I thought, "A ladies brunch!" I called my girlfriend and she was up for it. Yay! So about 10 am this morning, we headed down to "The L Wine Lounge & Urban Kitchen." I've been wanting to share it with her and it was a gorgeous day to take a drive downtown.
When we walked in, they had just opened so we had the place to ourselves. One of the owners, Kolea (who is amazing, funny and completely welcoming) waited on us. Things started simply enough with Blood Orange Mimosas:
Then they brought us fresh fruit and yummy artisan bread with orange marmalade. (In my hunger, I forgot to snap a picture.) Next, we ordered "Pommes Anna." I'm not really sure how to describe them except that they are highly addictive. They're potatoes sliced paper thin (I wish I knew how!) and cooked in quite a bit of butter. They are crispy outside and so fluffy inside. We ate them with ketchup, spicy mustard and a bit of pesto.
For her main entrée, my girlfriend ordered the "Eggs Oscar." The description on the menu stated: Two Poached Eggs w/ Dungeness Crab Fritters Picholine Olive Aioli:
I couldn't resist getting a dish I've had before there and is my FAVORITE. Pork Belly and Eggs. The description for this one was: Two Poached Eggs w/ Pork Belly & Crispy Polenta. All of that came over grilled brussels sprouts.
Oh, and I realized I forgot mention that my friend ordered a side of bacon with everything else we got.
It was a gorgeous morning of food, sunshine, mimosas and girl talk. I really could have sat there all day.
